Get the Look: Monochrome and Neon

Who would have thought a TOWIE girl would end up being such a style icon? (For those of you who don’t live in the UK and haven’t heard of TOWIE, it stands for The Only Way is Essex, which is a reality TV show.) Sam Faiers has done it again with another fantastic neon set. I was very impressed she made her way onto People in the Style Watch section. Not surprising though with her stand out lemon crop top and matching skirt. Very impressed!

I am just loving what she wore to the Rays of Sunshine charity gig. This super stylish monochrome two piece really stood out with the pop of coral and neon heels. I don’t actually know where she got this amazing two piece from, but have come up with my own version of the look below:

Monochrome and Neon Look

1. Coral Top / 2. Conversational Palm Print Jumpsuit / 3. Coral clutch bag / 4. Orange high pointed court shoes

Not exactly a two piece, but this monochrome jumpsuit with a simple coral top will have the same effect. It’s a great way to pick up on the trend with versatile pieces that you can wear in various other ways. This is such a cute look for a night out, something a little different, but guaranteed to make you stand out from the crowds.

Monochrome is a really easy way to create a classic and very stylish look. The monochrome trend is still going strong and a cute print adds a fun, playful edge to the outfit. I love how she’s made the outfit stand out with the pops of colour. It shows that by simply adding a few statement neon accessories you can really transform an outfit. It’s also an easy way to get in on the neon trend if you don’t want to go all out in a neon dress.

Now go on, get stuck in on the trend and try a bit of black, white and neon! xxx

A/W 2013 Trend – Tartan

Checks have been huge this year, being seen on the catwalks (think Céline, Lanvin, Moschino, Prada, Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace) as well as the high street. It’s the perfect pattern to achieve various different looks; ranging from grunge and punk to heritage.

The grunge trend is still going strong and you can’t achieve the look without a bit of check. The perfect item to add to your wardrobe is a check shirt – think 90s flannel style. Make sure you mix it up with a bit of black, leather and studs for an all out grunge look. If you want to be a little more subtle, try adding a check accessory instead; think scarves, backpacks and satchels.

If grunge is not really your style, you can dress it up for a more chic look. Consider a plaid pencil skirt for work or a structured check coat. Go for a different shade – checks with blues and greens – for a more subtle look.

Below is a nice selection of what is available on the high street so you can achieve the look.

Trend Alert: Mad Men Style Dresses

Rimmel have paired up with Asos Fashion Finder and are running a retro glam competition inspired by the sixties. My entry below was inspired by the amazing style featured on Mad Men.

mad-men-inspiredMad Men helped to really helped to bring 60’s style back on our fashion radar. As this competition shows, the sixties trend is still going strong. Costume designer Janie Bryan has done a fantastic job of capturing the decade. Here are some of the things she had to say on the styles of the women of Mad Men:

betty-draperBetty Draper (January Jones):

“Very much of a throwback to the late 1950s. I love to design clothes for her that are very fitted at the bodice and at the waist and having that real full skirt.. I think that she dresses as the image of perfection, whether it be the cigarette pants and the perfect sweater or cardigan. Or the nipped waist or the full skirt. It’s also about, for her, unwrapping the package…It’s also about having so much time at home to perfect that image. That really is her style.”
